Certificate in Technical Production
This is a full-time vocational course that prepares students to become versatile professionals in a wide range of production roles in theatre and entertainment related industries.
There are fifteen places on the course. Recruitment is by interview.
The school considers that interest and enthusiasm are as important as formal qualifications. The ideal candidate will show commitment and a high degree of maturity.
The School is based in the industry. Students will be working alongside professionals from the first day.
The course can be used in a variety of ways: as a stand alone Technical Course leading to employment, as an intensive Foundation Year to prepare for further study or as a Post Graduate year to prepare for entrance to the entertainment industry.
On successful completion of the course the student will be awarded a Certificate in Technical Production.
The course is divided into two semesters, September to Christmas and January to June.
In both semesters there are teaching weeks at the start followed by a series of projects and mentored placements. The placements are structured to give the students experience of working in Lighting, Sound, Audio Visual companies as well as Theatres and Conference centres both at the company base and out on site assisting with shows and events.
Lectures and workshops are given by industry professionals in the following subjects;
- Lighting design and technology.
- Sound design, sound reinforcement and sound technology.
- Image design and projection technology.
- Staging and venue preparation.
- Event design and event management.
- Health and safety.
- Working at height.
- Access equipment.
- Tax and self assessment.
- CV and portfolio design.
Success on the course demands hard work, commitment and determination. The hours can be long and the work physically tiring, but the rewards and satisfaction are great.
