Our courses are delivered by highly experienced professionals in a range of teaching environments that reflect our unique relationship with the industry. We combine formal teaching with extensive hands on experience as well as a series of mentored industry placements with our many training partners. The one year Production and Technology course we deliver is designed to equip the student for immediate entry into professional employment. The creative industries are currently undergoing a period of growth resulting in a shortage of skilled technicians.

The staff at the Edinburgh Lighting and Sound School have been delivering technical courses for over twenty years with a near hundred percent graduate employment record. Graduate employment possibilities include Lighting Crew, Lighting Programmer, Production Technician, Touring Crew. Sound Crew, Sound Operator, Sound Technician. Production Assistant. AV Operator and AV Technician.
The Edinburgh Lighting & Sound School is based at the premises of Black Light, leading specialists in professional lighting, staging, sound and audio visual equipment. Black Light have been supplying products and services to theatres, exhibitions, conferences, tradeshows, heritage centres and many more organisations for over 25 years. Black Light has a wide range of professional industry standard lighting, sound and AV technology.
Edinburgh is a unique city in which to study Theatre and Events Production and Technology. We are home to the biggest arts festival in the world, the Edinburgh International Festival and the Festival Fringe. There is also the Edinburgh Book Festival, the Edinburgh Film Festival, the Military Tattoo, the Jazz Festival, Edinburgh Mela, Edinburgh’s Hogmanay , the Edinburgh Science Festival and the Children's Festival. Edinburgh also has the largest concentration of Lighting, Sound, Staging, AV and Event companies in Scotland, many of which are associated with the School as training partners.
